Large‐Volume and Shallow Magma Intrusions in the Blackfoot Reservoir Volcanic Field (Idaho, USA)

چکیده
The Blackfoot Reservoir volcanic field (BRVF), Idaho, USA, is a bimodal that has hosted silicic eruptions during at least two episodes, as recently 58 ka. Using newly collected ground and boat-based gravity data, large negative anomalies ( mGal) are modeled shallow km) intrusions beneath NE-trending alignment of BRVF rhyolite domes tuff rings. Given the trade-off between density contrast model volume, best-fit inversion models yield total intrusion volume ; kg results in intrusions, each km about 0.5 thick, with cumulative 100 . A network trending faults lies directly above on margins mapped anomalies. Most these have m throw; one throw up to m. Blackfoot Reservoir Campground Visitor Survey
In order for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to comply with the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA), and better meet the needs of the public; a visitor satisfaction survey was conducted at 23 BLM recreation sites in 11 states during fiscal year 2009 (FY09). The survey was developed to measure each site's performance related to BLM GPRA Goal 3.1 Provide for a quality recreation exp...
متن کاملMagma chamber behavior beneath a volcanic edifice
[1] The construction of a large volcanic edifice at Earth’s surface generates stresses in the upper crust whose magnitude is comparable to those of tectonic stresses and overpressures within a magma chamber. We study how this affects eruption behavior. Analytical calculations are carried out in two dimensions for a cylindrical reservoir with an internal overpressure in an elastic half-space wit...
متن کاملThe Aurora volcanic field, California-Nevada: oxygen fugacity constraints on the development of andesitic magma
The Aurora volcanic field, located along the northeastern margin of Mono Lake in the Western Great Basin, has erupted a diverse suite of high-K and shoshonitic lava types, with 48 to 76 wt% SiO2, over the last 3.6 million years. There is no correlation between the age and composition of the lavas. Three-quarters of the volcanic field consists of evolved (,4 wt% MgO) basaltic andesite and andesi...
متن کاملDynamics of magma ascent in the volcanic conduit
This chapter presents the various mechanisms and processes that come into play within the volcanic conduit for a broad range of effusive and dry explosive volcanic eruptions. Decompression during magma ascent causes volatiles to exsolve and form bubbles containing a supercritical fluid phase. Viscous magmas, such as rhyolite or crystal-rich magmas, do not allow bubbles to ascend buoyantly and m...
متن کاملRegional controls on magma ascent and storage in volcanic arcs
Understanding the controls for magma ascent and storage depth is important for volcanic hazard assessment. Regional differences in the depths of magma storage between volcanic arcs suggest that the settings of subduction zones and of overriding plates influence howmagma ascends through the crust. Here we use a compilation of data for 70 volcanoes in 15 volcanic regions to better understand the ...
